Five year old Saroo gets lost on a train which takes him thousands of miles across India, away from home and family. Saroo must learn to survive alone in Kolkata, before ultimately being adopted by an Australian couple. Twenty-five years later, armed with only a handful of memories, his unwavering determination, and a revolutionary technology known as Google Earth, he sets out to find his lost family and finally return to his first home.
Kidman and Urban tied the knot in a candlelit ceremony at St. Patrick's Estate in the beachside suburb of Manly in Sydney. Kidman's children Isabella Jane and Connor Antony, whom she shares with ex Tom Cruise, were also part of the couple's big day — Isabella was in her mother's bridal party. The film had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on 10 September 2016. It served as the opening night film at the Zurich Film Festival on 22 September 2016.

Saroo continues to wander around the city before coming across Noor, a seemingly friendly woman who takes him back to her apartment. At the film's earlier N.Y.C. premiere, Kidman said that she was able to transform into Lucille Ball because of her husband's support. "He's in there going, 'I believe you can do it, go for it. What do we need to do to support you?' Which is a fantastic partner in life." In December, Kidman and Urban appeared on the red carpet for the Australian premiere of Being the Ricardos in Sydney.
This section has more in common with neorealism than anything else — it’s almost impressionistic. That impressionism resurfaces later, when as an adult, Saroo begins to dream of his family, and the film works hard, and effectively, to convey his mental and emotional state. So when the film inevitably dips into the swelling music and emotion that belongs to a more conventional "inspirational" drama, it doesn’t feel overblown.
It is an effective, pleasurably melodramatic film – I challenge anyone to see it without reaching for the tissue box. The performances are excellent, with 8-year old Pawar, lighting every scene with his delightful smile, the standout. The photography balances beautiful, epic shots of the Indian and Tasmanian landscapes with pathos-laden close-ups of the main characters. The score by Volker Bertelmann and Dustin O'Halloran is emotively symphonic without a surplus of schmaltz. Despite the length of the film, the construction of the story is economic enough to maintain the viewer’s interest throughout. You go into this movie pretty much knowing how it is going to end, but it still takes hold of you.
Kidman would later share on Live with Kelly and Ryan that her husband had been very attentive throughout her pregnancy. While she was pregnant with Sunday, Urban flew to Australia to see her first ultrasound. " was there for six hours, saw the heartbeat and then had to fly back [to L.A.] to do a show," she said. Kidman and Urban welcomed their daughter, Sunday Rose, on July 7, 2008, in Nashville.
